Hi guys! I am building a high end pc. I need help choosing the ram. It needs to be DDR4. As I get some suggestions of the right kit of ram, I want to know:  what is a kit, is there a difference between 2 4gb sticks vs 1 8gb stick? I want a good, popular set of ram. I need 16GB. Maby it could look cool? It needs to match my red and black pc. Thanks.

Pff. Fine, no build yet. Just give us a budget and what you'll use this PC for and we'll come up with something balanced for you.

I don't really have a budget, but so far I bought:  Intel Core i7 6700k, Sapphire Nitro + RX 480 4GB, a Toshiba 1TB Hard Drive, Corsair CX750M, NZXT S340 RED/Black

Was it too much to add that line to OP? Would have save us 4 posts in this topic, making it much easier for people to read....

Anyhow, get a 2x8 kit if you want 16gb. Absolutely no reason to get 4x4. If that PC is aimed for gaming, grab a 2x8 3000mhz kit of RAM that matches your color and you'll be golden.

High speed RAM is overall not worth the cost, unless you have very specific workloads. Just find a good brand with looks you like. For the kit: would say 2 x 8 then to make use of dual channel support. Not sure but if you are also into RGB, Corsair has RGB RAM these days aswell.

Where did you see that? This is not an official term, and my wild guess would be that "dual kit" refers to using 2 modules, whereas "quad kit" refers to using 4 (duh). Assuming same capacity, there should be no difference between the 2 options, other than the CPU possibly not liking the 4 module config.

Is indeed the ammount.

Am no expert on the exact working of it, but for the best/fastest performance for RAM it helps if it makes use of that what your mobo supports. For the socket Z170 mobo's I think that is dual channel still. Tripple and quad channel support is only on the enthusiast platform to what I know, but can be wrong about that. X99 is quadchannel for example. But it has to be supported, so on a dual channel mobo it stays dual channel even if all 4 slots are populated.

For the kits in theory 2 x a duo kit should overall also work, but if you would plan to fill up 4 slots anyway for best compatability a quad kit is advised. Allthough I never had it, it could cause problems using 2 kits. Even if they are the exact brand and type. But think that is a real low possibility.
