So I've been attempting to build something game capable out of free/traded parts for a while now. I get a lot out of the dumpster where I work. I lost a cpu, motherboard, and a bunch of drives to a free (and faulty) power supply. at this point I have an Asus GTX550, 12gb of ddr3, a 120gb pny ssd, a 500 watt power supply, and an old dell case. I'm curious what kind of cpu/motherboard I should be looking out for? What kind of cpu wouldn't be held back by such an old gpu?

Look for an old sandy, wolfdale or ivy bridge cpu/mobo. I've pitched dozens of i3s because customers "need" newer components and I don't have any use for them.

So I finally got a motherboard from a dell optiplex 790 with an i3-2120 in it.
