Beast or Platinum?

4Strings

Hi,

I'm building my first computer in the next few weeks and was wondering what RAM I should get...

I was considering getting a 16GB (2x8GB) kit of 1,866MHz Corsair Dominator Platinum...

But I found that I can get a 16GB (2x8GB) kit of 2,400MHz Kingston HyperX Beast for the same price, and 2,133MHz for $20 less...

Which memory would perform better?

Also, and this is totally not important, I'm going to use an XFX Radeon HD 7950 (Double-D, Black Edition) on an Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z, so which, if any, of the DIMMs would look better?

Thanks,

What would you be using your computer for? If its for gaming 8GB of RAM is all you need.

EDIT:

I have had a bad experience with Corsair memory, but I got it RMAed and it was replaced quickly.

Intel i7-3820

Corsair Vengeance 32GB 1866

GTX 680

Personally I would go for the Kingston HyperX Beast, that stuff looks insane and it's 2400MHz, granted it has higher timings.

To be honest, memory speeds aren't that big a deal for gaming, just get the cheaper kit and put the difference towards another component.

Platinum's are really really balling out. If you want the best look and quality possible, go with them.

I went with the corsair purely for looks altho kingston beast preforms a bit faster.

All down to do you want it to look cool go with corsair or do u want one of the fastest memory out atm go with the kingston cant go wrong with either of these there both a great choice

The Corsair Dominator Platinums look really nice inside of a system but they are also expensive. The higher core latency on the 2400MHz memory is going to be unnoticeable because the memory is considerably faster.

In summary they are both fast and they are both good just get whatever is the cheapest.

Thanks all!

I've decided to go with the Beasts... 2,133MHz for $30 less than 1,866MHz Dominators... Talk about a bargain! :)

BTW, Does it make a difference whether you're using 2x8GB or 4x4GB if they're clocked at the same speed???

Mainly just the timings, higher capacity sticks (8GB DIMM) tend to have higher (worse) timings than the lower capacity sticks (4GB DIMM). I wouldn't worry about it, it's not really noticeable and only makes a difference when you get into rendering 3D models and the likes (correct me if I'm wrong). Just go for the 2x8GB that way if you need 32GB you'll just need to through two more sticks in there.

I'd love to get platinums if they weren't so expensive. They look amazing.

I mean look at that.

I hear ya! :)

But I have to say, the Kingston Beasts and Predators are also pretty "bawlin"! :) :P
