I have just recently invested in better audio equipment. I have the Akg k7xx that runs off of the Schiit Vali, and a nice set of speakers. The problem I was having is that if I have them plugged in at the same time only one option comes up in the sound tab labelled speakers. Beack when I had a usb headset there would be two option that I could switch between. I wanted them to show as two different options so I could just change the default audio device, and not have to crawl under my desk to unplug one of them for the other to work. Thanks

How are the things connected to the computer?

If my assumption is correct you're not using two diferent audio devices anymore, so that's why you can't switch between them in Windows.

Can't you just connect your speakers to the pre-amp out on the Vali 2? That way you just need to unplug your headphones for your speakers to play.

I have the amp connected to a 3.5mm jack in the back of my pc, and I have the speakers in the front 3.5mm jack. Sorry for the late reply

I think that's the problem, and I think Volbet is correct, your computer now 'sees' them as one since they're both running off your onboard audio. I'd have had this issue too but have this issue licked due to my having an Oppo HA-1 which has multiple inputs and acts as a pre-amp as well. For you, perhaps the simplest solution, something like the below:

Thanks for the reply, if I used this the computer would recognize them as two separate devices? If there is even a chance that it would, I wouldn't mind shelling out the $3 for the cable. Thanks again.

No, but with this, you don't have to unplug either the Vali or your speakers (which I assume to be some sorta powered ones). IF you speakers uses stereo minijack -> RCA inputs, then you simply plug the minijack from your speakers to one of the two female minijack sockets, the other would go to your Vali (assuming you have a stereo minijack to L/R RCA plugs for your Vali as well). As long as you have only either the Vali  or speakers on at any one time, it shouldn't be a problem.....only downside is that since the audio signal from your mobo is split into two ways, you may find volume to be a bit lower than with simply plugging either the Vali OR speakers plugged in.
