my mom was trying to get on her computer (some dell inspiron, not sure of exact model) and she got the CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED error every time she tried to boot her computer. Does anyone know how to fix this, she cant even get to the signin screen

Hmm, It seems like your windows installation got corrupted. I cannot help you since it doesn't really tell you what process. Try pluging in a USB drive or a Windows installation disk and use recovery mode to recover the installation.

what do you mean by her windows installation got corrupted? she said that right before she left for a conference a driver update/installer popped up and she closed it

Only if you reinstall windows. But you don't have to completely reinstall windows, although a clean install is always recommended for better performance, overall less crap on harddrive and such, plus the drivers will get (if you install them atleast) updated for once without any fatal errors :Þ

 

It's up to you, but plugging in a Windows install disk/USB drive will also allow you to just simply recover the current OS installation and fix corrupted files or registery errors if needed.

how would i do that though? i dont really know how to do a clean install other than through settings, and my mom cant even get to the signin screen before it crashes. also, there is a windows 7 product key on one of the little stickers on her case, would that work as a product key for windows 10?
