Hello, fellow mobile device enthusiasts.

I have been using an Asus Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML 2GB with the lower-clocked Atom) for a year and a half now, but lately it's been pretty sluggish, and Asus seems to be really lacking in support for the device (it's still on Lollipop despite Marshmallow being promised for the beginning of the summer). Pokemon Go in particular is very laggy (and it was released for Intel x86 devices a while after other Android devices). Seeing new phone releases, I would like a more performant replacement, with new features (i.e. fingerprint scanner), and my choice is pretty much set on the $400 bracket ($519 CAD for me).

The 3 models that interest me the most are the following :

  • Asus Zenfone 3 (not Deluxe) : Unreleased in Canada for now, unknown release date, unknown official price (< $519 CAD probably).
Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, 4GB RAM, 32/64GB eMCP storage, 5.5" IPS FHD display, ZenUI (Android 6), 16 MP camera, microSD card slot, fingerprint scanner

  • Huawei Honor 8 : Releases September 4 (11 on Newegg.ca), $519 CAD (with a $50 Newegg gift card, a pair of headphones and a case if pre-ordered before September 3)
HiSilicon Kirin 950, 4GB RAM, 5.2" IPS FHD display, 32GB (eMMC?) storage, EMUI 4.1 (Android 6), dual 12 MP cameras (same as the Huawei P9), microSD card slot, fingerprint scanner, IR Blaster

  • OnePlus 3 : Released, $519 CAD
Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, 6GB RAM, 64GB UFS 2.0 storage, 5.5" Optic AMOLED display, OxygenOS (Android 6), 16 MP camera, NO microSD slot, fingerprint scanner

My favourite for now is the Honor 8. I love the design and the features it offers (IR Blasters are amazing), as well as the smaller screen (I find my 5.5" Zenfone 2 quite big). I don't like EMUI so much (my brother has an Honor 5X), but I guess it's fine if you install another launcher (Nova, Google Now). However, I really like ZenUI (the Asus custom ROM) which is on the Zenfone 3, and the specs of the OnePlus 3 are pretty killer for the price, but I need a microSD card slot since I already have a 64GB card that I use a lot.

Which one would you recommend, or which one do you prefer personally? I'd prefer not to go back to Asus phones even if I love the UI, since the support is so bad.

If you have similar models which can be bought in Canada (that's important, no Newegg.com), please feel free to send some links my way :D
