Remotely Manage My Workstation?

Off to college - I'm not taking my workstation beast I built at home. However, I would like to still fully control my PC while I am at college with my laptop.

How will I be able to control my PC remotely in that case?

I heard of turn on over LAN and such, but how would I go about logging into the computer with my password remotely?

Would appreciate every and all help - Google only showed me sleep over LAN and wake over LAN, but I'm wondering what would happen once the computer is at the log-in screen asking for a password.

I need to be able to manage the PC - install programs, restart and shut it down freely, etc.

The motherboard is an Asus X99-M WS. Other specs are: i7 6900k, 2 GTX 1080s, 64GB RAM.

The computer currently is using wifi, so I would need to get it wired up to ethernet in order to get it to wake on LAN I assume?

Teamviewer, remote control pcs

That's an obvious - yes. But I'm looking into how I can turn off and on the PC remotely since I don't want my computer on 24/7 while I am away on college.

Is there anyway to configure the Wake on LAN if the PC is using wifi?

Yep, it is not incredibly easy to set up though. And as you said, you need an ethernet cable.

It is called "Wake on LAN" or WoL. Or in your case "Wake on WAN" because you will be turning it on from out side your network.

You need a few things for this to happen:

- A motherboard to support it - which yours does, look here: https://www.asus.com/support/faq/114359/

- An operating system to support it - what is your OS?

- A router to support it (or support port forwarding which almost all do) - What is your router?

- An Ethernet connection (wired connection)

If you know how to port forward, then port forward port 9 on UDP. If not, then I can assist :)

Also to answer your question, once you turn no your PC using WoL/WoW, then it will go to the locked login screen - Teamviewer can login from here as long as you have your password.

So I'd need to connect the PC via ethernet? Okay.

Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit is the operating system.

Router is an Asus RT AC 56U

Do you have a Skype to possibly help me out (just to chat, not to call or anything.)

Yeah, sure. I do prefer Teamspeak however. We can either Skype or use my Teamspeak. If so, I can PM you the IP :)
