Hey Guys,

I have been looking threw "Al Gore's Internet" for some time now trying to find some good info on how to start my own Webcast. I have a concept I have outlines for what would be my first 14 weekly podcasts, but I'm lost. I have found mountains of info. Some of it is good, some of it is not so good, but I really can't always tell the deference. I fell like I'm trying to build my first PC and trying to understand how to choose my first GPU, only worse.

Do any of you know of any "strait to the point" resources I could make use of? If I could find a Punch-List of what I need, that would really help me out.  I would know what info I need to further research to put it all together.

Thanks Everyone.

P.S. Video? Video Series? I bet you Linustechtips put together a great youtube video on this topic.

Are you asking about materials and stuff you would need for recording a podcast? All you really need is a decent mic and something to record with.

For recording and editing audio: Audacity

For uploading:

I've never made a podcast, but according to this guide, you can upload to iTunes for free

You can also use SoundCloud

Some good mic options in various price ranges:

Samson Meteor, good budget option

Audio Technica AT2020 XLR Mic, good mid-high end mic

Shure SM7B, Great, but expensive option

The Samson Meteor is USB, but the other two will need an XLR interface such as the M-Audio FastTrack

Other accessories that can help your audio quality:

Pop filter, blocks mic peaks from your breath (the AT2020 that I linked comes with one, but it will be useful for the other two options)

Shock mount, protects from shocks such as bumping the table or stand

Sound-absorbing foam, you line your walls with it to get rid of echo in your recording

Mic stands:

The Samson comes with a desktop mount, but this is not recommended, as it will pick up lots of bumps, and keyboard/mouse sounds

This one clamps on to your table, or shelf, etc., and holds your mic up

If you have no where to clamp your mic where you plan on recording, this one stands on the floor

If you're really serious about recording, you can buy a booth like this one. It'll keep your sound from being echo-ey, but it takes up a lot of space in your setup, especially if you don't have a dedicated area to record

Based on all this, you can start your own research, determine what you need for your podcast, as well as how much time and money you're willing to invest, and make your purchasing decisions accordingly. I hope I could help.

Please excuse me, I was not paying attention and typed "Podcast" instead of "Webcast."

Ironically, I'm Okay with the audio (though I need some brushing up) as I worked for 5 years in the Pro Audio department of a mega-chain music store. I can build you a pro music recording studio, where I am lost is the video production and streaming side.

Thanks Again.
