For my first build, I plan on using an i5-6600K and an R9 390, which paired with all of my other peripherals consumes 475W without any overclock, which I plan to. I also hope to eventually go CrossFire, and was wondering what wattage of a PSU I should get if I plan to overclock both graphics cards and the CPU. Without overclocking, the setup would consume 750W of power. What wattage and efficiency power supply should I go for?

Any Seasonic one, or an EVGA G2/GS of appropriate wattage. Gold efficiency.

Keeping a 20ish% buffer is always smart, regardless of the efficiency and 80 plus rating. You don't want to put 90% load on the PSU and definitely not for extended periods of time. If your future upgrades and OC will pull a total of 750W, aim for 850-900W.

These two are plenty powerful for your needs:

Does it have to be 390's? RX 480's in crossfire would be the same performance with less power (So I have heard).

Most benchmarks have confirmed that because of driver updates the R9 390 performs better in nearly every game. In addition, there are no (correct me if I'm wrong) aftermarket models for the 480 yet. Plus, I can't find it anywhere.

Not yet. I do recommend getting the 480s over the 390s when they do drop however.

I've had plenty of people tell me that an i5 6600K and R9 390/390X would be just fine with a 550W PSU.

I'm planning on getting an RX 480 when I have the money to do my build so a 550W is almost way more than enough.

for sli, oc on 3 components, and peripherals, i would go with 850w minimum and 80+ gold efficiency rated as continuous power, if it doesnt say that in the title, go to specs and look for "active pfc." also its better to look at the 12v amps make sure for an 80+ gold rating it says at least 40 and up..and as pricing is concerned, find what you can afford with what i listed. happy shopping

I think I might go for the RX 480s. If the price drops on the XFX or Sapphire 390s I might get those instead. Thanks for your help though.

In that case a 750W PSU will be enough. The RX480 is not as power hungry as many others out there. To be on the safe side, go for a 850W, such as the EVGA G2 850W, excellent price to performance.

the sapphire, asus, and msi rx 480's have launched already. also i recommend EVGA's G2 lineup, the 1000w isnt too bad for around $140-$150
