This is for those of you who are wanting to step into the shoes of being in the IT field. Some people may not agree but this is what I have seen within my 12 years of doing this. I came into IT when I was young thanks to my father. He taught me everything I know of and he was really good at it. I started helping him rebuild Operating Systems and going through the process taught me my love for technology. I got my first job with my father and we were pulling Cat5E cables for a school being contracted into a company because they didn't have enough man power to do it. We also hung projectors and Smart boards. Fast forwarding I then got a job as a field technician for Dell. I would run all over my state fixing computers but getting paid very little so I left. Now I am a Tier 2 help desk and I still don't have a degree. The IT field is moving away from needing degrees and wanting to see the certification. As a help desk agent I hope you have a lot of patience because you will be needing to explain to people how to fix simple problems due to the tools needed to remote in not always working. I have had good moments and bad and now I'm ready to shut the light out and walk away from this path to head to a different one. I was taking some classes for digital animation and game design and I loved it. It was the first college study I went to and actually enjoyed going to school. So as you can see that is where I will be heading.

-snip-

Im just waiting to finish my last year on a networking course, perhaps trying the Cisco certification exam after it and then ill probably try to get myself into a school that properly teaches how to use 3DS Max, Maya and other Autodesk applications, since theyr very highly sought! Art training will be essential too, but i supose its not in a regular professional drawing establishment to begin with :P

Good on you. Pursue something that you enjoy doing. Good luck.

im only 21 years old I will hopefully be able to go back to school next fall and I have a school already picked out I have to set up an appointment with them. You don't need to be the best drawler you need to have a passion and willing to learn.

4 years... that's a long one

Its a bachelors degree program and at the end of it you are 99.9% likely to get a job I have friends who have gone through it and they had jobs in a few days after graduating
