Building First Gaming PC

Hey guys.

I've decided to build my first Gaming PC. I was recommended to come here and seek advice from you guys!

So here's the situation:

Budget: $1,000

Experience with building PC's: Close to none

Expectations: 1080p video quality, good-to-above average frame rate

Thank you in advance for your help in building my first gaming pc!

Yes I would like to include that into the budget! These don't have to be top-tier, just good enough

That's not exactly true. Overclocking is when you have your CPU, GPU, or even RAM go faster than their normal, rated speeds. Generally this is pretty safe of you don't go crazy with the voltage and watch the temps.

I suggest using the website called PC parts picker. it gives you compatibility and pricing information regarding your build.

Noetheless you could be looking at an

i5 6600/K

z170 of your choice

8/16 gb ram

gtx 1060

~500 W PSU

windows 10 home

the rest depends on you. this config should give you pretty decent performance at 1080p :)

Work in progress: Powerzen: R7 1700, X370 Taichi, 32GB, gtx 1050ti (temporary), 850 evo 1tb, Hx 850i

Would you guys recommend me attempting to complete the build myself or possibly taking into a store for them to build it?

do it yourself. it is free and nothing harder than putting together lego bricks :). My first bulid was one with a custom loop and it was perfectly fine

Definitely build it yourself. It's a great experience and you'll learn a lot from it.

IMO if the budget isn't quite around $1000, AMD is better bang for your buck.

Will do! Do different build parts affect the building process? Or can I watch a certain video and it's the same steps but different hardware?

Most builds will be the same as any other. Follow any of Linus' build guides and you should be fine.

Yeah I agree but I always recommend newer over older, not picking sides here but personally, I would go with the 1060, you are free to disagree :)

They can affect it slightly, but for 99% of the process it's near identical across your build and one on YouTube. If you choose the one with the i5 6500 and GTX 1060, most how to build your PC tutorials on YouTube should be the exact same process as your build.

If you encounter any problems or issues while building your PC, just come back to this forum and post a new topic and there will definitely be people who will help you out with your build! :)

Good luck!

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
