Audio jack is jacked

GIR385

Alright, I built a PC back in January and it's been great save a few exceptions. Chief among them: the 3.5mm audio jack is totally broken. Originally it just wouldn't work with my headphones. I'd plug them in and some audio would come through, but not all. I would have to bend my headphones where they were plugged in to get them to work. Now my computer has started registering audio devices that don't exist. It sends me notifications at random times saying I've plugged in headphones, when I haven't.

Help please.

Unplug the case audio from the motherboard headers.

It is probably because of a cheap case, they can have really terrible front io with things breaking such as usb ports.

This is an example of what can happen with cheap cases:

Disable audio in bios
Buy external or internal sound card

Alright. I'm assuming I'll need an external card to have access to them in the front of the case yes?

Yea, the case is super cheap. It's my biggest regret in my build.

You didn't mention it was the case 3.5mm causing faults, in that case (haha) just unplug it from the motherboard and purchase a 3.5mm extender and use the rear port.

I would just unplug the audio jacks from the front io, than buy a usb adapter.

^^ This. It's the simplest and easiest approach.

Note - depending upon the age of your motherboard, you may need to put some jumpers on the front audio header when you unplug the case's audio. Check the manual. (If it's HDAudio, there's no worries)
