I want to get rid of the CPU because it's a piece of crap in the games I play (TF2, heavily modded Minecraft, etc). I don't really need to upgrade my GPU quite yet because I'm not really playing any GPU centered games but when I'm ready I'll probably get some RX series graphics card or a 1070. Here's my plan.

My question is, I want to stick with Skylake but I don't know I'll need a K series chip. Any suggestions?

Maybe get an overclockable motherboard? If you don't it's a waste of money to get the K series CPUs. And if $25 more isn't too much, get an 850 EVO for the SSD, they are very good.

I wasn't aware I couldn't overclock on this mobo, is overclocking exclusive to some mobos? Also yeah I'll see if I can get an EVO

Yes, intel locks down different mobo chipsets in order to make different chipset tiers where some can overclock their cpus and some can't. The H110 chipset is one of the chipsets that can't overclock the CPUs.

Okay then, can I just get a 6600 CPU then? I don't really want to get a more expensive mobo just for overclocking.

Hi there :) Glad to see you on the forum!

@Logarithm gave you some pretty useful suggestions so I'd consider them.

Also, are you planning on swapping the WD Blue drive? Any reason for it? Is the drive functioning properly?

Have in mind that gaming doesn't really rely on the storage's performance for anything but the loading times and the performance difference from one HDD to another HDD won't result in anything more than a couple of seconds difference at best. WD Blue should be fully capable of running any games.

Post back if you have any questions,

I don't own a WD drive unless you and Seagate are partnered.

EDIT: Oh, it defaulted to that in PCPartPicker, I don't own a WD Blue drive. I own the one listed in my upgrade plan.

In that case let me know if I can help with anything. :)

If you are reusing an old drive make sure you check its health before using it in the new system so you are safe that your new data will be safe and he drive is still in a good condition.
