It's ~20% faster.  You're better off saving for an 1160 next year, or a 1070 imo. You won't notice much of a difference at 1080p unless you're trying to run 144hz, and the 1060 isn't really a 1440p card. A worthwhile upgrade would require one more tier or one more year.

Stay with your 970. Cost to performance to upgrade is not worth it. As others have stated, wait until games are no longer playable at a setting you feel acceptable. The 970 is still a 100% good gaming card for today's games.

I agree with the above. I have a 970 myself and at 1080p, I can't complain at all. I am eyeing towards the 1070 when I finally upgrade to 1440p -> I will have to wait until I travel to the US this fall anyways, since I am sure as hell not gonna pay european prices (almost $600!!).

I currently have a 970, still waiting on my pre-ordered 1080. I have overclocked my 970, and it gets better results in most benchmarks and games than the reviewers have shown for the 1060. I do hit VRAM issues with the 970 in some games, and I am getting 3x 1440p 144hz monitors hence the GPU upgrade.

I would not recommend upgrading from a 970 to a 1060. Keep saving, and skip a generation and look at the 1170 whenever that becomes a thing.
