Monitor having random streaks on screen

Hey LTT forums,

 

I have a four year old HP monitor and just recently i've been noticing these black and or white horizontal streaks that flash pretty often now. at first i thought it was just my eyes because i use the computer for too long everyday but now im sure its the monitor... does this mean that my monitor is about to die?

i would try the monitor on a friends computer. to check if the monitor is good or bad

if its dying how long would you think it will last, also where can i find a good quality monitor that is on the cheap?

if that was the case where a random steak that i could eat appeared on my screen, that wouldn't just make my day, i'd make my life. LOL! i just like my steak
