Hi everyone ! Just discovered this amazing forum xD

Well My Pc is 8 year old (nearly 9 now) and at that time there were plenty of information about gaming in 1080p, now that the pc struggle to do most of recents games i want to upgrade, but not just to better 1080p, i would like to go to 4k (cause i think it will become more and more popular in the next 10 year)

So ... I've searched for some infos and i'm not sure about some things so i'm coming here to have your insight about it ...

So i'll start with the new monitor i'll go with an Asus ROG Swift PG27AQ (4K G-Sync + ROG functions that are pretty nice for me ...) the only thing about it is the displayport 1,2 who limit it to 60hz if i've understand correctly

Next i'll go with a gtx 1080 (maybe a 2nd in SLI in some years (probably like 5 at least i hope) then one won't be enough)

For the CPU i have a biggest hard time to decide, an i7 6700k (4Ghz 4/8 core (HT) OR a biggest CPU (6 or 8 core ?) ? What would be better for a 10 year investisment ? I think the i7 6700k would be nice but won't it limit at some point ?

The CPU will determine the motherboard but i'll listen to your though about the chipset who you think woild be best ...

For Ram i'll go with 16 or 32 GB (will decide after motherboard/CPU for the best speed / latency i can find.

For PSU i'll go with a new one modular, the other one may bave enough power (need to see if it is ...) but the cables were a mess to deal with ... so i'll see what i can do with this later :P

Well ... I want to play lastest game in 4k and maybe do stream/recording in 1080p (and i have the tendency to have LOTS of internet pages launched at the same time (like youtube + future thing to do and never have time to really do it ...) And recording mean editing and rendering (i may do it while i don't play actually but while i'm watching video or something :P) And i'll have my current monitor (1080p) at 2nd monitor for control/TS (and never used 2 screen before so don't know how it work ...)

So I think my original idea with i7 6700k and 16 (maybe 32 GB ?) of ram should be enough but i prefer to have other people thoughs about it ... So ... What do you think ?

Btw sorry for my engrish it's not my native language so i may have made some error :P

ps my last pc build was 800€ without HDD and optic drive (they are cheap anyway), for this one i have some money saved so i'll go full out (but not too much if possible !)

Yep, just stick with the i7 6700K and 16GB of RAM. You won't need to go to the enthusiast level of Intel's CPUs for what you do.

Just keep in mind that you won't be able to achieve 60FPS without lowering some settings at 4K on a single GTX 1080.

'Fanboyism is stupid' - someone on this forum.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

If you can I would wait for the Titan XP to launch then buy a 1080 since the price should drop for the 1080 and Vega will be out by then (hopefully) and that should drop the price even further down.

16Gbs of RAM is enough and if you should stay with the 6700K since it has faster single core performance compared to the 6800-6950X series so you should be good on CPU and get a Z170A board since they OC very nicely and i forgot but make sure to get RAM that is above 2400 MHz for speed since RAM speed is becoming more important with CPU intensive titles and besides that you should be set! Good luck on your PC :D

thx for the reply to you guys xD Do you have any idea then the new card will be launched ? cause i wanted to upgrade the pc from the begining of the year and didn't have yet the time to do it :P and near the end of the year i'll be busy (found a learning job (don't know how to translate it really but it's the idea) that is at 1H20 by road so i'll have only 1 to 2 hour a day that i will be really be able to use it for 10 months (then i hope i'll find a job nearer :p))) So i'd like to be able to use it to fully extend for the 3 months i'll have time :P

yeah i know some game won't be at full 60 fps at max that's why i 'may' get a second 1080 for SLI but it will depend on the budget (i don't want to go over 2400€ it make a 20€ month for 10 year investisment ...) So i'll watch the best thing i could buy for this kind of configuration and see if i can afford a 2nd right now or if i'll wait 5 years (hope i could still find it in 5 year cause the current build was made with possible 2nd GPU udgrade but never found the same card at a good price (then i bought it it was 135€ and last time i checked (1 year or so ago) it was STILL 135€ where it could be found ... So never bought a 2nd (and my CPU is used at 95% most of the time actually so it wouldn't have made much of a difference i think :P))

Well anyway, i'll still think about it for the week before deciding, i'll be back !

So i was watching the differents thing that i would need and if they were aviailable or not and i saw that my powersuply will need to be changed (well was expecting it anyway) and my case is ... a little too short for the graphic card (it wouldn't even enter ... by 1 cm :S or it could enter very hardly and should need to move the drives anyway so ...) So need to do a little more thinking ... (and need to find a case that can still stay on my desk :P cause this one is pretty much taking the whole lenght)

So for the card i was wondering if an overclocked one was worth it or not ? (and it's a 20 day wait vs no wait (and 60€) and the monitor is 15 day wait anyway so ... i wonder :p)

For power suply, witch brand should i go for ?

I hope i'll get a fast answer cause i can't wait to get it ...  And thx for the infos xD

I wouldn't go 4k on a single 1080, even now not every game gets 60 fps with one. A lot of apps don't display great on 4k and you'll be relying on lower resolutions if you want to max out a lot of games which does not look great on 4k monitors.

Wait for the new Titan or go down to 1440p (which also gives you 144hz monitors), just my perspectice.
