Hey guys, need some advice/tips.  So I'm currently running an Asus z97-E motherboard.  I'm thinking of changing it to either the asus z97-pro gamer or MSI z97 gaming 5.  I currently have a 250gb ssd and 1tb hdd and I will be adding another 3tb hdd for more space.  I want to know if I'll have to reformat both of the old drives and reinstall my os again?  If I have to reinstall my os, it will be windows 8.1, but I'm currently running windows 10.  If I do have to reinstall my os would I be better off just buying a new windows 10 os?

I would go with the MSI mobo and windows 10.  Just because I trust MSI more than ASUS.  I would go with Windows 10 because like... Windows 8? Rly?

GPU: ASUS Strix GTX 1070,  CPU: i5-6600k OC to 4.0 GHz,  PSU: Rosewill Capstone G750 750W,  Mobo: MSI Z170A Krait Gaming,  Case: NZXT H440 White,  Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB (2x8),  HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB, Mouse: Razer Ouroboros,  Keyboard: Razer BlackWidow Chroma, Mousepad: Razer Overwatch KB+M pad, Headset: Corsair Void RGB,  Monitor: 1x ASUS PB277Q 27" 1440p & 1x HP Pavilion 25cw 25-inch 1080p

Had windows 8.1 literally for a month before upgrading it to windows 10. Literally built my pc right before windows 10 was out but didn't want to wait to build it. Wondering though if I can just skip the reformat so I don't have to reinstall my os then upgrade it again. Know anything about that?

The windows 10 upgrade was free, if you upgraded you already have windows 10 and shouldn't reinstall 8.1. I created a windows 10 USB drive, and it was handy to fresh install my old desktop when my friend's Oculus rift soft-bricked it, the system is linked to my microsoft account and when I booted it back up it reactivated without any issue.

You dont have to reformat or anything. Simply install the new motherboard with the existing boot drive and youre good to go. You will need your product key though because it will ask for it.

Do make a bootable USB just in case though.
