Hey all, I recently noticed my CPU has been getting high temps under very little load, such as 108C under 26%. It is an AMD Athlon X4 860K, with a stock cooler (May be the issue). The cooler runs and everything, it just has very odd temps, it also makes a strange buzzing noise when I put the side panel of my case on, and my case gets very hot (From the cpu, I can feel the heat coming off the cooler, not the gpu) https://gyazo.com/419121b286666319f6d0c58484980a38 https://gyazo.com/1166ec9180d0ef7ec74e9b1ab9559b9c https://gyazo.com/3c000670f9a284319a1355939d6a1294 . I recently cleaned my computer, got rid of all the dust from the heatsink, reapplied thermal paste properly etc. I do not know what the issue is, playing gta V it got up to 120 C. Also very noisy (May be the cooler). So do I need to get a new cooler or is the temperature measure broken? Thanks if you can help me. My cooler is the old AMD cooler not the new one

Edit : hwmonitor temps are the same https://gyazo.com/60d9ea9c3f339ebf206a7a889c956bfe

recent 30C temps wont help, but I would suggest if the fans are running high then the  temp reading is correct so I would check you don't have too much paste and consider a new cooler before you cook that cpu

Too much paste may be the issue, despite me spreading it evenly

Luke made a workshop video about that and turned out that it will raise temperatures only by a little margin. What case do you have? Try to check RPM of your CPU fan. Are there any obstacles that may slow down or stop fan from spinning?

My heart belongs to AMD but that doesn't mean I furiously hate Intel or NVIDIA :)

All cables are away from the fan, the fan speed is 4700 rpm (Something like that), I have a gamemax falcon

In the HWMonitor screenshot I also noticed CPU Temperature: 38°C in motherboard's section. I think that temperature is being read incorrectly in CPU section of the software. I don't have experience with new Athlons so I looked into the topic and found an interesting article: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/faq/id-2122665/understanding-temperature-amd-cpus-apus.html

You should try installing Overdrive and look at the thermal margins. For now I think that problem is just the incorrect readout.

Weird is the fan noise, but AMD stock coolers are noisy - is this noise new? Have you done anything with your cooler recently?

Noise is not new and has been happening for a while, when I get my mic in 3 days I will record it and put it on here for you

Thanks

According to the article I found, this temperature means margin between max temperature that starts underclocking your CPU and current temperature. I can't found what temeperature is maximum for your CPU but some posts say 72°C - that would mean MAX - MARGIN = CURRENT TEMP which translates to 72-40=32 -> your room temperature.

No matter what is the actual problem or if there even is any, you SHOULD buy a new CPU cooler. AMD stock coolers were piece of ... (you know what).

Great choice. Your temperature from screenshot was 56°C - acceptable, but the new cooler will be better and not that noisy. When you get the new cooler, post your temperatures here because I'm interested how it will turn out.

Good luck!

Temps playing GTA V for 10 minutes. Realised that the mad temps were just false reading, I will post my new temps when I get my cooler :)
