So I recently got a new motherboard, the gigabyte z97x gaming 7, and I'm having some issues with the drivers. I don't have the disc for the drivers, so I've been downloading them off of the gigabyte website on another computer and transferring them to this one via flash drive.

Most of them installed correctly, however whenever I try to install the Ethernet driver, (killer e2200 gigabit Ethernet controller) I get this error message, "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device. Windows found driver software for your decide but encountered an error while attempting to install it. This operation returned because the timeout period expired."

How can I stop this from happening? Before I didn't even get a timeout, it would just fail almost immediately. Am I using the wrong driver? Is my timeout time too short? I already disabled signature checks on drivers, and that didn't seem to help. Thank you in advance!

Have you tried booting into Safe-mode and giving it a go? Bit inconvenient, but stranger things have fixed issues like this for me or restarting after a few driver installs to give it a fresh environment :-)!

Try getting the driver off the NIC manufacturer's website.

Wouldn't that be killer? Killer e2200 is labeled on my motherboard. Even though they have the same drivers, I downloaded them on the killer site as well, and they also wouldn't install.

See if you can find the install files somewhere under your C:\ drive and manually delete them. Drivers are sometimes known for not uninstalling properly since they embed themselves so deep inside operating systems. If it's not too much trouble, I'd also recommend reinstalling Windows and seeing if that works.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.
