Hi Linus Forums.

I am trying to build a new pc but I have never done so. So here is my PC part list I found:

Price breakdown by merchant: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/WvbKBP/by_merchant/

CPU: Intel Core i5-6400 2.7GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($231.55 @ Vuugo)

How is this build? I am looking to try to budget it down to maybe 600 or less. I plan on using this build for light gaming and video editing with Sony Vegas Pro.

Thank-you in advance.

I would suggest an SSD for your OS and key programs.

Not sure about the gpu either, if you can stretch your budget for a RX480 or 1060 when it launches that would be better

I was told to use a regular HDD instead of SSD. What benefits would an SSD have over an HDD in my build situation?

Ideally you would have both.

SSD for OS and key programs for super speed in booting adn loading programs

HDD for all your stuff. Super cheap per GB

I tried to edit my PC Part Picker list but the Pentium G3258 core would not show up (meaning it's most probably not compatible with my current build).

i was being sarcastic.

How much SSD will I be needing? Will 120 GB suffice for my needs?

He was implying that you had chosen a good cpu

Hmm, it looks good but it's very expensive. Based on my needs, it might be better to just downgrade it a little more. That's what I'm thinking is if I can lower my budget (since CPU is taking a huge portion of it).

Hi! Your build is a bit imbalanced so I switched it around and it will actually give you better performance for less money.
