Headset and Speaker recommendations?

Recently, my speakers died. They were $30 Logitech ones that were pretty good for the price. I always used spare Apple earbuds for gaming, plugged into the speakers. But, because the speakers are dead, I can't do that. I currently have my earbuds plugged into then front audio port of m,y PC, which I had to move in order to give the earbuds enough slack to allow me to sit in front of my monitor.

So, I'm looking for a new headset and pair of speakers. For the headset, I'm considering either the Kingston hyperx Cloud II's or the Audio-Technica m50x's with a mod mic. Although I plan to be gaming with whichever pair I get, I will also be using them for music. Which one should I pick? Is there a better option than either of them?

As for my speakers, I'm not looking for anything special. Just something that I can use when I have my headset off. My price range for speakers is ~$40.

One last question: I want my headphone cable plugged into somewhere directly under my desk. Is there a headphone extender cable or something I can use? I know the Hyperx's have something of the sort.

Thanks!

As for a headset I would get the Cloud II's I have the originals and they have a good mic for what they are. I have no experience with the Audio-Technica's but I heard they get to be uncomfortable after a while. Speakers I have no idea but I am pretty sure Logitech has speakers in that price range still.

If I get the Audio-Technica's, I'm probably going to get aftermarket earcups, like a few other people have. http://www.brainwavzaudio.com/collections/accessories/products/headphone-memory-foam-earpads-sheep-skin
