Computer randomly will display a black screen while on.

I recently built my first computer and it was running fine until a day ago. While I am watching videos or playing games, the computer will randomly display a black screen, no cursor or response. The only way I can get it to be usable after an indecent like this happens is by unplugging the computer and re plugging it back in.

Computer specs:

Mobo: MSI M5 Gaming enthusiest

GPU: MSI Radeon R9 390

Ram: Corsair vengeance ddr4 2x4 GB

Could be PSU problem? Might not be enough power or the PSU is unstable? Have you overclocked the CPU by any chance?

There could be a lot of things that can make this occur

Wow this was old as heck, Need to update this signature!

I figured it out and for others who may have a similar problem here is what I did:

First I turned up the case and cpu fan speeds and tested to see if I would get a black screen. When I did get a black screen I did some more research to discover that gpu overheating could cause the problem as well. From there I proceed to change when the gpu fans start spinning, as they were set to be idle under around 20% load. I pushed the rpm to 20% at 10% load and that seemed to work fine. No more black screens as of yet!

My MSI GTX 970 is doing the same exact thing. I would load a game and within seconds my monitor would just shut off. I am thinking it's a power supply issue as my 8 Pin connector that connects to my PSU which leads to dual 6+2 cables has melted 3 prongs on the connector. What's weird is my 670 works flawlessly. It's just this dang 970 acting like a fool. I also wonder if it's an issue with Fan speed as the cooler on this apparently doesn't turn the fans on until a certain temp
