System Information in BIOS showing wrong system memory amount.

Ok i today got a P5Q turbo and some ram+cpu in a craigslist trade.

 

Well it has 4 stick of this exact ram.

Now the weird part is i was looking through the BIOS while waiting for my windows USB drive to format.

And i went into system Information,i see the bios version,the cpu info,but when get to the system memory it says the "Usable Size:10752MB"

 

WTF??

 

Did read it right that it says i have 10GB of ram? But i only have 4x2gb sticks..... Is the something i should be worried about?

sounds like a glitch in the reading software. Check to ensure you have the latest BiOS installed.

My plan was to update the bios after i get windows installed,but i just looked,and it is already updated to the latest bios.

Once my windows thumb drive is done i will install windows see what it says.

For giggles, one of the sticks wasnt accidentally a 4gb model was it? You could also download Speccy: LINK and see what it is telling you.

you should check if you have bent CPU pins. that ended up happening to me as well. turned out the bent pins were in the IMC part of the CPU socket area so now my PC suffers from random memory issues like getting a no ram detected beep code at POST or sometimes just reading the ram size wrong or just not being able to detect core voltage in CPUz or the SPD.

Well i tried to install windows,and it would freeze at the logo...

 

Well after trying everything under the sun,different ram,PSU,HDD's, and even CMOS battery,I finally fixed it...

 

It was the CPU,i changed out the e6600 for a e8400 that i know works and it reads the right amount of ram,and will let me install windows.

 

I am either going to make a keychain or neckless out of the dead chip.
