Hey Guys this is my first ever Pc build and was wondering what everyone thinks.

GPU - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 G1 Gaming 8GB

CPU - Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz 8MB LGA1151 Skylake Boxed CPU

MOBO - Gigabyte H170-Gaming 3 Intel H170 S1151/4xDDR4/2xPCIEx16/HDMI/DVI/USB3.0/ATX Motherboard

RAM - Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB Kit (8Gx2) DDR4 2133 Desktop RAM

HDD - WD 3.5" Black 3TB WD3001FAEX SATA3 64M 7200rpm HDD

SSD - KINGSTON SHSS37A/120G HYPER X SAVAGE 120GB SSD SATA3 6Gb/s Max Read/Write 560/360MB/S 2.5inch

CASE - THERMALTAKE CA-1C8-00M1WN-00 CORE V31 WINDOW Mid Tower USB3.0

PSU - Corsair CMPSU-750CXV3 750Watt 80Plus Bronze ATX Power Supply Unit

OS - Microsoft OEM 64Bit MS Windows Home 10 (KW9-00139) Eng Intl 1pk DSP OEI DVD

I was just wondering for everyones opinions on the build and if you guys could answer a few questions if possible?

- Does the MOBO fit inside the case I have no idea how to check (sorry)?

- Is the PSU good enough for the system, like is 750Watt enough?

- What do you think of the build ?

Thanks Benjamin

I'd go with a Z170 chipset so that you can overclock. but you'd need an after market cooler added to your build.

SSD I'd recommend going with a 250 GB drive and I'd also recommend Samsung over Kingston, just person preference.

750W is plenty, but I'd recommend going with a different series or different brand. EVGA are almost all great. If you're going with corsair get the RMi series.

Mobo fits that case. What you're looking for is form factor (EATX, ATX, mATX, ITX)

Build looks good

PCPartPicker is your friend. It'll check for incompatibilities and such.

Hi there,

I've built my fair share of PCs, but I'm sure most of the users here have far more experience with this than I do. So, here goes my opinion:

-First of all, the case supports ATX, Micro ATX, Mini-ITX motherboards, as per their product page

The motherboard you chose is ATX, so it should fit just fine.

-The PSU sounds alright, although it is 80plus bronze, as long as you don't go crazy on it, it should be more than enough (quite enough to overclock and run one or two GPUs without a problem)

As for the build...

Okay, I understand that you want to have the latest, baddest, bestest (huh) PC out there, but hear me out: Going high-end on a gaming PC might not be worth it.

Before I get crucified around here, let me explain.

Depending on what you want to do with your PC, it might be overkill. Mainly because seeing how hardware advances quite fast, I'd rather recommend you go a bit lower and upgrade in a year or two, rather than go full speed ahead and not upgrade for five years.

The 6700K is a beautiful CPU, nothing to say there. However,

DDR4 RAM is not so good for the consumer market. While it does have its advantages, they are mainly made for servers. Rather than pay more for some DDR4 sticks, get DDR3 and invest that money in one more SSD (or a bigger one).

I do like the dual SSD/HDD thing, but be warned, you might end up like me. I tried the dual setup, but then when I saw how fast the SSD was compared to the HDD, I put the HDD in my NAS and got myself another 240 Gb SSD.

Now, the GPU. 1070 is awesome, it's quite fast and strong. However, if I were you, I'd take a look at AMD Rx 480 - it just came out, its price is lower (about half -- okay, less) and it seems to support most games.

Honestly, I'd rather go with two 480 in Crossfire than one 1070, but again, it all depends on what you want to do.

----Let's break it apart!!-----

You will need a CPU cooler for the 6700K as it doesn't come with one. Go with the Cryorig H5 Ultimate or if you can spend a bit more, go with the be quite! Dark Rock Pro 3/Corsair H110i GTX. Also get a Z170 board for overclocking. If you don't want to OC just get the 6700 (non K) and stick with the H170 board and you wont need a CPU cooler, as the 6700 comes with one. Also you might want to get a 250 GB SSD, I would recommend the Samsung 850 EVO, just stay away from the Kingston SSDNow V300 series, they get bad reviews, and aren't that great compared to other SSD's. The PSU you selected is not very good. Go with an EVGA G2 550W. The mobo will fit in the case, and you don't need more than a 550W PSU.

DDR4 is the same price as DDR3, at least in America it is. And he'd have to get a motherboard that supports DDR3 and he need to get DDR3L. Not worth it if he's going with Skylake imo

Nice build! It seems very solid but I do have some different suggestions for you.

-First of all, get a z170 chipset for overclocking.

-Second, Getting an EVGA G2 750W or something similar is a better choice due that the corsair cx being only for basic builds.

-Third, get an 250GB  SSD instead of 120GB. That way you can put some games on it and many programs that you like. EDIT: Have a look at the Samsung 850 evo 250GB

DDR4 RAM is not much more expensive than DDR3L, which is the only DDR3 memory type that the 6700K supports. And it is not true that DDR4 RAM is only for servers. Games nowadays can actually see a benefit from faster memory. No point in going with older RAM as it isn't much cheaper. RX 480 Crossfire isn't a good option compared to the 1070 in my opinion as many games don't support Crossfire properly. Always go with the best single card before doing SLI/Crossfire.

This might be a stupid question but in stupid terms can someone actually explain what the difference between overclocking my GPU and not overclocking because ATM I'm leaning more towards keeping the same MOBO and going to the normal 6700. I'm Also looking into fitting in a better SSD and PSU thanks so much guys.

For some reason the two websites that I'm looking at where I am getting my parts from, don't seem to have EVGA PSU's so I was wondering if there was anything else that I could look for?

Overclocking your GPU is separate from your choice in motherboard and CPU.

Going with a locked i7 6700 is fine, especially if you don't plan on overclocking at all. (I'd still recommend an after market cpu cooler as the stock cooler kind of sucks)

Overclocking your GPU and CPU typically leads to a 5% - 15% increase in performance (really really dependent on how much you overclock, what you testing, etc.) A lot of enthusiasts think of it as "free" performance.

Ok thanks If that's so I might just stick with the base 6700 as I up until today my whole plan was to go with a Case that came with a PSU for  $150 to only find out I now have to get both separately due to some issue with the stock and In Australia EVERYTHING is soooo expensive so PSU's over here are about 150$ for a cheap one, not to mention I hardly know what I'm on about, so looking for good things is hard.

I cant seem to find any reviews on this THERMALTAKE TR2-0700P-G 700W TR2 GOLD 80 PLUS GOLD Certified PSU so I was wondering what everyone's opinion on it was thanks :D

I'd recommend going with the corsair   RMi  like someone already suggested in this thread.
