You'll really want SP fans. Think: You're pulling through the dust filter AND then pushing through the radiator. AF fans are going to choke bigtime.

 

EDIT: If you do tack on some AF fans, I don't think they'll do enough to justify the extra power usage or trouble.

I would like to get positive pressure and from what I can see in my case ( Define R5 ) I can't mount a 280mm rad Corsair 115i AIO  on the top, the only place it will fit is on the front, no biggie. After reading and watching videos on if it being on the front matters or not and I'm settled with it. Anyway, I want to know if I can put 2x 140mm SP fans on the outer most part of the case pulling, with that can I put 2x 140mm AF fans on the other side of the rad pull air through the rad with the other two SP fans pulling air into the system? Or do I need to get 2 more SP fans to put on the side of the rad. Mainly wondering if it would make a difference if I used either AF or SP fans for the 2nd set of fans on the other side of the rad. This all being the done with a 140mm AF fan is in the back of the case pulling air out.

That's what I was thinking I was just wanting a 2nd opinion, thanks man! I'll pick some up when I go and pick up my 1080 from MicroCenter. Whenever they get them in... Have been waiting for the EVGA FTW edition.

Linus made a video on this :D I think it ended with sp push af pull or something. I use sp on push and pull.

I watched that video but I guess I must have ended it early or just missed that detail O.o. The prompt replies are far superior compared to Reddit. Wish I would have joined the forums a long time ago. :D

Now with the rad in the front pulling the air in would just a single 140mm fan in the back of the case be enough to create positive pressure or should I also have my PSU pulling air out?

 


EDIT: Also this little guy on my mobo. Would it be alright to pull air from the case and out the back do you think?

If that small fan is on the back of your case, It should push out. What case do you have? I usually make my psu point down to cool itself then my rad goes in the top pushing out and the fan in the back pushing out too. Then I put fans in the front pulling fresh air in. My current build does have a 360mm rad in the front pulling in so I have the fan in the back and all 3 fans on top pushing out of the case.

Okay so I would put at least on fan at the back on the top pushing out along with the one for the back pushing out. This would give more even pressure.

I have the Define R5 and my rad can only fit in the front and if I can I'd like to keep the top covers on the vents. So rad in the front with 4 SP 140m Fans, 1 AF 140m Fan in the back, and the little mobo fan pull air from the case and out the back too. More intake than exhaust = positive pressure from what I've gathered from online. That's what's getting me thinking about the PSU, if the fan is pointing up then it is another exhaust pushing air out which would make it about even on the intake to exhaust ratio.

I, too, have the R5.

 

Set the radiator in the front to pull in fresh air. Then have a single airflow fan (140mm is best in that case) to exhaust air out the back. Leave the moduvents on the top. Have the PSU pull in air from the bottom (fresh and filtered), and out the back.

 

This is approximately what I do in mine, and I get some pretty damn good temps.

Awesome! My main dilemma was the PSU and worrying about positive pressure. I'll set it up that way for sure Shibbs and the little fan I have pushing air out of the case since it's just a baby lol. How loud is your system?

Well, that depends. My graphics cards are the loudest part, unfortunately. I water cooled one, but the second will be liquid soonish.

 

For reference:  

2x LTT SPECIAL EDITION Noctua 140mm intake fans through 45mm 280mm Hardware Labs rad

1x iPPC 2000rpm 140 fan for intake on bottom (really helps with GPU temps)

1x iPPC 2000rpm 140 fan exhaust through 45mm thick 140mm Hardware Labs rad

 

All the fans are less than 1000rpm at all times.

And yes, good overclocks for everything. lol  GPUs are at 1500 mhz, and CPU is 4.6 ghz. Wasn't quite stable at 4.7, and I didn't like feeding it over 1.3 vcore.

Nice rig! One major selling point to me was the sound dampening that was on the case. With the top covers on and mainly just the front rad, a hand full of fans and a GPU it shouldn't be TOO loud but I'm sure as hell that it won't be nearly as loud as my current outdated rig. I would post a picture of my current rig but it's just too sad to even post, we've all had one of those Frankenstein towers I'm sure lol. I will be making a building time-lapse video of my new rig once I get my GTX 1080, it's the last thing I need. All new everything and looking forward to finally making it happen :) ( specs in profile ) I was thinking of custom watercooling but I may save that for the future.

 

Edit: I'm also trying to maintain a black and white theme and with looking at all I got I think it's gonna be pretty slick.
