Greetings. I have a 7-year-old Thermaltake Spedo full tower case (http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00001282) and today I realised the front fan has stopped working. I removed it from the case and when I try to turn it with my hand it doesn't turn as easy as the other fans. It does turn, but with a bit more effort. it is like there is some sort of resistance.

The other 2 rear case fans work perfectly and all 3 case fans share the same power input.

Is there anything I can do to repair it somehow or is it broken and useless? If it is broken, do I absolutely have to replace it or can I get away with not running any front cooling? The PC also has a 1GB ATI Radeon GPU on it and is used mainly for office work.

Thanks!

You have enough fans to just not worry about it tbh, it's only 1 fan and if you watched the workshop video about case fans, you only really need 2 fans until you get into diminishing returns territory.

Sounds like dust or something in the bearing, your not getting that bearing open because putting it back together probably requires holding many steel balls in place at once. If you have ever broken a sliding drawer bracket its exactly like that lol. You could try some compressed air if you have any.

If you dont, instead of buying a can just for this just get another fan lol

Thank you for your reply. Where do I find this workshop video? And what do you mean by "diminishing returns territory"? I 'm sorry but my English is not that great xD

Also Diminishing Returns means, you buy something to the point where it doesnt make a big impact

Most fans actually don't use ball bearings except for the really high end ones.

Just grab the fan-hub and the stationary hub with each hand and pull away from each other, blow out the dust and apply a little bit of grease or oil on the shaft when you put it back together. If this doesn't help the fan's circuitry is probably damaged.

Yeah I thought so but due to lack of me not remembering any other bearings I just assumed it would be aha
