Hi Guys. So today I was chatting with my friends about computers and stuff. Since I have a crappy PC and paycheck coming next month I think it would be a perfect time to start a topic here at Linus Tech Tips forums about a new PC build. So. I want a PC that I can run game perfectly with no major FPS drops or anything like that with a 1k budget. And I'd like to hear other people's opinions about the build before I buy it.

This is what I currently have in mind:

Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty Gaming B150 K4 Intel B150

SSD: 128 Gt SanDisk Z400S 2.5 "(6,4 cm) SATA 6 Gb

HDD: 1000GB Seagate Desktop HDD ST1000DM003

CPU: Intel Core i5 6600K 4x 3.50GHz So.1151

GPU: 8192MB MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming Edition

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo Cooler tower

RAM: 8GB HyperX FURY black DDR4-2133 DIMM

And Windows 10 on top of that. (Gonna look for cheaper places to buy it from like G2A.)

Now. You might be wondering: "Wheres the case? And what about the power supply?"

For a power supply I am going to rip off a Corsair VS550 ATX power supply and for the case I am going to order an another one from Jimms.fi instead of Mindfactory since If I order from mindfactory they will send as a whole different package and I need to pay more for delivery costs.

The case: BitFenix Neos, ATX-midtower Black or BitFenix Nova, ATX-midtower Black.

The price of the build is little over 1100€ with taxes.

First : If you are buying an Intel " K " series CPU, than buy a mobo with Z series chip set.

Reason : Intel " K " series CPU has unlock multipliers. You can Over Clock an Intel K series CPU by increasing your CPU multipliers. But if you want to change your CPU multipliers than your mobo should support that features. In case of Intel, Z  series chip set support that features. So' If you are going to O.C your CPU, you have to buy a K series CPU + Z series mobo ( with compatible socket) ( in case of Intel ). Otherwise you are wasting your money. Intel K series CPU are costly because you can O.C those CPU. If you can't O.C those CPU you are wasting your money.

Second : PSU choice is horrible.

Reason : Crosair VS series power supply is not made for gaming pc. Build quality of VS power supply is not great. This PSU is made for Office comp. where people use i GPU for their work & work is very light.

Suggestion : Buy a non K series CPU and spend extra money on PSU.

Reason: You can't O.C your CPU with that mobo & Z series mobo are more costly. Plus you need a better CPU cooler, if you want to O.C your CPU above 4.0 GHz.

In this case I probably have to go for the non O.C build as I don't really have much more money to spend than about 1100€  and I really want a SSD too. I could save by using an older computer case that I have under my other desk but I don't think it's that great as there's really no airflow in there. I will add your suggested parts to my mindfactory shopping cart and see the price. I will be back then. I don't really want to order a new PSU as this one (The Corsair 550) I have is almost brand new.

I could of course go with this OC build you suggested. It seems to be good. I would even save 1€ :) But I really want the SSD. But I've managed this far without, so why not in the future. I didn't find the Storage you suggested from mindfactory so I will be just going with 1000GB Seagate Desktop HDD ST1000DM003 64MB 3,5 "(8,9 cm) SATA 6 Gt / s I hope that is good enough. Thanks.

I'm currently viewing the mobo and the memory. The memory you suggested is DDR4-2666. Right? But the site say that the mobo supports DDR4-2133, DDR4-2400, DDR4-2800, DDR4-2933, DDR4-3200 +. Does it work? I'm not a huge genius when it comes to this.

Yes it will work but the speed you will get is 2133 MHz. Buy the one which cost less. In PC part picker list , i found 2666 is priced lower than 2133, so i added that ram stick. I am using G skill Rip jaws 2400 in a asus B150 mobo, because my mobo support 2133, my 2400 MHz memory is working at a speed of 2133MHz. In my country 2400 MHz ram cost less compare to 2133 MHz. Al tough i can O.C ram frequency because my mobo support XMP profile but i am not interested in increasing ram speed

Seagate drives are also fine. WD is my personal choice over Seagate

Alright, a quick update. My shopping cart is looking like this now.

dc00eb276bd896f3d7124ad16f1664cd.png

I talked with some friends and we ended up ditching the O.C and building it like this. Now.

My final question is...

Do you really think that a new PSU is necessary for this build? because I don't know since my friends say that it is not and internet says otherwise.

Is the RX 480 better or worse than the GTX 1070? I'm really interested in that because of the very low price.

Solid benchmarks are not available yet & don't go with VS PSU. Crosair has really good PSU ex: TX, AX, HX but CX / CS / VS are not good for gaming PC. I am not saying it will not work, i am saying PSU is not suitable for your work. You can ask this question in the forum Cases and Power Supplies.

Ok. But think I will go without a PSU upgrade for now and see how that works out. Any issues: I'm changing. Thank you very much for the help.
