Could someone explain this?

I'm still confused though...

Perhaps I should just stick to DisplayPort if I ever want 2 or even 3 displays.

I am not sure what you are confused at :D

The  ThunderboltEx III pci card lets you add a thunderbolt port to your PC

if you dont need thunderbolt, then you dont need the card , you can just connect 2 monitors up to your GPU as normal

So I was looking at ThunderboltEx III recently but had seen this image/example:

http://www.gigabyte.com/news/1421/mb-news-0413-3.jpg <- What does cable between the 'boards integrated graphics and the graphic card actually do..?

Could someone explain or show a scenario please.

As for ThunderboltEx III,

I have two questions regarding the ThunderboltEx III PCI-E Card:

  • When does it get released and for how much?
  • And could someone explain a scenario for/about the "Mini-Displayport-IN" port please? I need to know what it's intended purpose is.

Thanks ~ Xiauj

So you can use the thunderbolt as display out I assume, seems like a pass through so the GPU connects to the thunderbolt interface perhaps?

So would this benefit towards anything like FPS in certain games or anything like that?

no, its so you can use thunderbolt to connect to thunderbolt displays

So if you have that cable already in place as shown in the image, what extra(?) cables would you need?

Because I've heard that you can connect 2x 4K Monitors using one(?) DisplayPort cable but I'm trying to picture the cable layout.

you can daisy chain displayport/thunderbolt

Do you mean converting DisplayPort to Thunderbolt?

thunderbolt already carries displayport

you can daisy chain like this so one cable from computer to monitor, then the monitors connect with a cable together

It does? I'm a bit confused..

*Tries to draw several diagrams thinking how it would work*

Thunderbolt carries displayport and a PCIe data

and you can dasiychain

SO lets say you have 1 computer, 2 monitors and 4 hard drive

You connect via thunderbolt to your monitor, you connect your monitor to hard drive 1, you connect hard drive 1 to hard drive 2, ........................................................

so that you only use 1 thunderbolt on your computer

thunderbolt carries data BOTH ways

you connect your monitor to hard drive 1, you connect hard drive 1 to hard drive 2,

o.O Do you mean you need to have like a empty hard drive (x2) to maintain 40GBps that ThunderboltEx III grants so that you can then maintain 4K from the two monitor or single monitor?

no i was talking about daisy chaining multiple devices together and only using 1 port on the computer

So if you had a macbook, and 2 monitors you only need 1 thunderbolt port

Laptop -> thunderbolt cable -> Monitor 1 -> thunderbolt cable -> Monitor 2

Ok that makes a lot more sense and this sound a bit silly but,

When you have connected the first monitor, what cable is it that you then connect Monitor 1 to Monitor 2?

Or an easier way of saying it,

What cable(s) are you using that come out of the laptop (Link if possible? :P)

I am not sure what you are confused at :D

The  ThunderboltEx III pci card lets you add a thunderbolt port to your PC

if you dont need thunderbolt, then you dont need the card , you can just connect 2 monitors up to your GPU as normal

From how I'm interpreting it, you'd have one of these Thunderbolt cables (http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MD861ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-cable-2m-white) going out from the laptop and into monitor 1 but you can't 'go back onto that cable' to then hook up monitor 2 because that cable as linked is not a 1 out to 2 in cable.

Or 3? :P

Might consider getting 3x 60Hz monitors or 3x144z monitors.

Currently using 2x60Hz for this PC. Wanting to upgrade and have got my new-desired rig ready to go, just gotta get the money for the parts, lol.

Thunderbolt monitors oftne have 2 ports, so you can connect the 2 monitors together via thunderbolt

thats why its called daisy chaining
