I have a chance to swap out my sabertooth and 4770k for 3970x and Asus p9x79pro mobo?

Worth?

Use would be gaming and probably some heavier stuff later on.

Clock per clock does it loose by much?

Per core performance, yes it looses on that front....

You will notice it especially if the only thing you do on your pc is run SuperPi :D

On a more serious note, I recently went from a 4690k to a 3930k, and not only did I not loose performance in games, I gained performance, mainly because my cards are no longer bottlenecked as they were with the i5 (if it was below 4.1GHz).

But let's be real here, if the only thing you're doing is gaming, you should stick with the 4770k, not only is it newer but it draws less power, and is capable of handling pretty much any task you throw at it.....
