Hello.

I recently built a PC for a game server and I'm wondering what Linux OS I should use. I will be using this OS for a minecraft game server. I want a GUI except a very lightweight and easy to use OS. I will also be dual-booting this linux os with windows. What linux os should I use? Maybe Ubuntu Desktop since I'm more familiar with it?

I assume windows is already installed? either way there is a windows version of the server so you could just use that?

Windows Server Edition is not necessary, a linux os is free and uses less resources then windows server and also windows server is expensive.

you said you were going to dual boot windows and linux. You don't need a server edition to run a minecraft server. It is literally a java program that will run on a desktop just fine. Pick windows or linux as your OS and download the server.

What would be the point of dual booting windows? If its on a desktop and you are running your server on linux, and wanting to use windows at the same time, you have to restart your system killing the server. Unless there is a solution similar to bootcamp and parallels like there is on mac running windows.

The server won't be on all the time. And when its not, my father will use it.

then you might as well just pick a desktop OS and just run the server when you need it.
