Sony MDR1-R, noticable improvement with Soundcard?

Don't spend that much money on a soundcard if you just want it louder. Grab an external DAC like the Fiio E10.

Also note that "bottlenecking" is not relevant to audio reproduction.

Hey guys!

I've been thinking about getting a Soundcard (ASUS Xonar DX, maybe STX) but I'm curious if it will really improve the audio quality / if I'm bottlenecking them with a pair of Sony MDR-1R (48 Ω).

Most of my Audio files are 320kbit or FLAC. I use them 80% for Music & 20% for Gaming.

And sometimes I wish the MDR-1R could get a little louder.

Sorry, but I didn't find a topic that answered my question :D

Thanks in Advance!

There are better options for your money.

If you want the headphone to just get louder, you can just pick up an amp.

What about the lower priced Xonars? Like the Xonar DX?

Not worth it, and will probably be a step backwards from your on-board solution.

If you are going to do it, do it right.

Seriously? Wow...

I think I'm gonna go with a FiiO E07K Andes and use it as an AMP on my PC and as an DAC/AMP on my Notebook.

Good choice?

Very good choice if you are going to use it for both, that is exactly how it is intended but not really how a lot of people us it. The E17 would be a step up if you wanted to spend a little extra but not sure how much you would notice it really. The E07K should do you well.
