There is a gtx 650ti in a shop by my house for £30 (a real good deal) and i was wandering if i could run two graphics cards with a dedicated physX card or is that not possible? Im planning to go GTX 1070 x2 eventually so i was wandering if i could still buy this 650ti for a physx card or will it not work?

MY RIG

16gb Corsair vengeance 2666mhz

MSI Gaming X 1070

Dont bother with physx cards they are not worth it.

Infact if your physx card is actually to weak in comparison to your primary GPU it will hurt your fps.

Take this as someone who was deadset on a physx card..I just got another 680 for an extra $100 and it did physx duty as well as boost FPS in nearly anything I played

System Specs

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x | Mobo: Gigabyte B550i Aorus Pro AX | RAM: Hyper X Fury 3600 64gb | GPU: Nvidia FE 4090 | Storage: WD Blk SN750 NVMe - 1tb, Samsung 860 Evo - 1tb, WD Blk - 6tb/5tb, WD Red - 10tb | PSU:Corsair ax860 | Cooling: AMD Wraith Stealth  Displays: 55" Samsung 4k Q80R, 24" BenQ XL2420TE/XL2411Z & Asus VG248QE | Kb: K70 RGB Blue | Mouse: Logitech G903 | Case: Fractal Torrent RGB | Extra: HTC Vive, Fanatec CSR/Shifters/CSR Elite Pedals w/ Rennsport stand, Thustmaster Warthog HOTAS, Track IR5,, ARCTIC Z3 Pro Triple Monitor Arm | OS: Win 10 Pro 64 bit

No, it's not. If you're rich enough to buy a 3rd 1070, it'll offload the PhysX to the third card without the need for DX12, but ain't nobody got the money fo' that.

I say jiggly-bytes when I see "GB".

It goes down better than you would expect.

No, you can assign PhysX to a card in the Nvidia control panel.

@Chewique, I can't say for sure but I think a 650 ti would actually handle PhysX worse than just having it done on the 1070's. Also, whether or not it would be worth it to have a dedicated PhysX card in the first place depends entirely on what games you play.

In any event, you can't use three graphics cards on a Z97 system. You don't have enough PCIe lanes.

"Do as I say, not as I do."

-Because you actually care if it makes sense.
