I want to expand my laptop's storage by 1 or 2TB with an external USB 3.0 HDD. However, I want the fastest transfer speeds I can possibly get. Would it be better if I bought something like a WD Passport Ultra, or if I purchased a drive and enclosure separately? I'd probably get a WD Blue or Black drive. Any recommendations?

Well I have a 512GB 950pro in my laptop so I don't really need solid state storage. This is really going to be for larger files I don't want to keep on my m.2 drive.

WD Black is the way to go then.

Can you recommend a USB 3.0 enclosure for it then?

This is the one, i got. U can go with any other cheapo one. They all work the same. U will always have an external power source, since usb cant power them. I hope that helped u.

Hi :)

How much storage space are you looking to get? What speeds do you need?

For a really good performance I could recommend checking WD My Book Pro as it features very good speeds, exchangeable drives, RAID support and Dual Thunderbolt 20Gb/s connection, if your computer supports it.
Other than that you can check the other Desktop and Portable drives and see if any of them would meet your capacity, speed, connection and budget demands. :) Feel free to ask if there are questions about any of these!
