Helping my friend build a new computer for vr. im trying to be as cheap as possible so for the build i was thinking either xeon/amd bulldozer cpu due to them being much cheaper than standard i5/i7 chips which would eat almost half the budget. Was looking at the xeon e5-2670 for 70$ cad as a possible option as its an 8 core 2.6ghz cpu with decent specs but im not certain it will work for vr. the described minimum for vr seems to be an i5-4590 and even though the xeon cpu beats its cpu mark rating by almost 2,  im not sure if vr needs better single threaded performance or if there is some other reason that the xeon chip wont work. not planning on doing anything fancy like sli just a single gpu with a stock cooler. Is there some way to tell what will work for vr?

By the time VR is mainstream, stuff like vulcan/DX12 which utilize more cores much more effectively should be far more popular. I think because of this you might be fine going to something like an e5-2670.

However, single threaded games out right now probably won't run that great due to the CPU bottleneck.
