Hey all, i build my pc early last year, i tried to plug my old HDD in but every time i do so, it crashes my pc and it will not start. The old OS is still on there so im guessing thats probably causing problems? Does anyone know how i can sort it out as i want to use the HDD and get all my old pictures and videos off of it. Thank you

Plug the HDD in, go into the bios and change the load order to your primary OS drive first (The SSD or whatever your everyday windows install is on)

That should at least stop the crashing, then you should be able to access the HDD inside file explorer and format it or whatever you want to do.

Hello :)

If you keep your motherboard manual you will find there a guide on how to get to BIOS and how to properly configure your Boot order. Try doing this and make sure your new drive is on top and that the old one is either excluded or after the new one. If, after doing this, the PC continues to have problems booting to the OS I would try connecting the drive externally and see if it's still functioning at all and try to remove the old system and OS partitions. If the drive is healthy it should then function normally like a secondary drive.

What's the drive's brand and model? Have you tried other cables or ports? Have you tried plugging it on another PC?
