Windows 10 upgrade stuck "checking for updates"

FrigidNinja

I'm in the process of upgrading to windows 10 on a fresh install of windows 7.

I've been staring at

"getting updates, checking for updates" for over two hours.

what am i doing wrong?

do i need to fully update windows 7 before upgrading to 10?

Hey man, I'm having kinda the same problem but I'm just trying to install pure Windows 7 updates on a fresh install. Do you think the update servers are down or flaky at the moment.

I can help you stop WIndows 7 Updates from running, hopefully you can upgrade to Win10 without it

1. Windows Update > Change Settings > "Never Check for Updates"

2. Start > (type) msconfig > Services > (sort by name) then scroll down to "Windows Update" and uncheck that box > Restart.

See if the upgrade works without win7 updates
If it doesnt undo step #2 restart, undo step#1 and try running the update /upgrade again

This Windows 7 memory leak is friggin horrible and i used to have to undo and redo these two things multiple times before my Win7 updates ran properly
