Here is the build i came up with for a friend. If you could modify something what would it be? He wants that particular case so that is set on stone, anything else can be modified. He plans on upgrading the GPU in the next few years.

Parts must be priced accordingly on newegg.

Thank you!

That is pretty much what I would have chosen.

Looks good.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

Get an i5 6500 so you have higher stock/turbo speeds

a 380/X will be faster than a 960, and you'll want a 4GB card

Should consider a better case like an N200 or SIlencio 352 for some budget cases

go for one of the various MSI VD or GAMING H110 or B150 board, they all have solid power delivery and USB 3.1

and you should buy a better PSU, try this one

If you really are limited to that one retailer then you will be paying more for components that are not as good as you would be able to afford. You could get a better system by buying from different outlets. However if you only want to buy from new egg. Here you go.. Its a little over priced, but it has a SSD and a 4GB R9 380, and a excellent PSU.

@mcmole Looks pretty good, but there is no case in that cost and mail in rebates, such as the 20$ for the r9 380 are worthless because it takes months to get them if you every get them at all. I would like a 380 4g but cant seem to fit it into budget

There's a 380 4gb card for $189 here

If nothing else at least buy a less expensive case and get a better power supply, like the seasonic 550W I linked above

That board is out of stock at newegg, and an i3 would bottleneck a 970, and a 390 would be faster anyways

While I agree, its the best I could do to get the best GPU for the price. A 390 was not within budget 3: I mean if OP wants to add a bit more money to their budget, it wouldnt be much to upgrade to an i5

best GPU ain't really everything, and apparently the cheapest decent 390 is $320 at newegg

If its for gaming, its the biggest contributor. And yes, I know its 320 but that would only add to the budget of the list.

Probably better off with the i5 that won't need to replaced anytime soon, especially with new GPUs so close, and if he's only gaming on a 1080p display the $300 GPUs are a bit overkill
