Preparing for an Upgrade

Hey guys, I will be upgrading my PC in a few days. New graphics card comes tomorrow, the rest propably on tuesday.

I will only be keeping my Storage Drives for the new PC. 1 SSD with windows7 and some app+games and 2 HDDs for mass storage.

Now how should I upgrade? Waiting for all parts to get? Or maybe I could already uninstall old graphic drivers and install new one as soon as my gpu comes.

I will be switching from g560ti to r9 390. Then when my new cpu+mainboard arrives put the storage drives and new gpu on it.

Do I need to update the bios?

I read that "Driver Sweeper from Guru3d" could be used. Would you recommend it or maybe another programm.

I want the upgrade to be as smooth as possible so I hope to get some adivce which steps I should take.

Quick list of parts I will upgrade

i7 2600-->i5 6600k

old mainboard--> asus z170 pro gaming

gtx 560ti -->msi r9 390

And ofc cpu cooler, ram, psu and case

Thanks

Your CPU and motherboard swap is almost pointless... the 2600 is only just under the 6600k for most performance. Even winning in some benchmarks.

Since I will be overclocking the i5 to around 4,6 ghz there will be a bigger difference to the 2600.

But that wasn't really my question.

Just trying to save you time if you weren't overclocking. :P

Since you have an older GPU in comparison vs the Cpu comparison, I'd upgrade the GPU first if you can't wait. But if you are okay with waiting for all the parts, that usually goes smoother. Backing up your copy of windows may prove useful as well if the new CPU and motherboard don't want to take the old key.

Thanks

Also DDU is the best that I've used for killing off old Video card drivers. So that's what I recommend.

Yeah, a backup was one of the things I thought about. I read somewhere that changing the motherboard would deactivate my license.

I think Linus mentioned DDU in a Video in the last couple months but the name just wouldn't come to mind and searching for it ...no point.

Thanks for the advice :D

Yep!

Also... Are you selling the 2600? I may be interested in buying it from you.

Wait for mobo. Thats the biggest part. Backup everything from SSD and do complete fresh install of Win7. Thats easiest way. You can leave HDD's unplugged. If you have anything installed there you need to reinstall most.
