Curious - Replace SATA with USB 3.1?

They aren't designed to handle constant load and will probably die faster.

I'm just curious if it would be plausible to build a mid-to-high performance budget PC without using SATA (or PATA, I guess) storage devices, and instead use a USB 3.1 expansion card with a high-capacity and high-speed USB dongle device. Here are two possible candidates from HyperX: http://www.hyperxgaming.com/us/usb/hxs3

512GBs in the Savage USB 3.1, reading at 350MB/s, may be enough storage for the whole of Windows, all of your audio and video drivers, backend software and digital libraries, and possibly a few games. The 1TB Predator, unfortunately using only USB 3.0 and reading at up to 240MB/s, may provide the additional space at the cost of speed. Is this cheap enough, and fast enough, to stand with modern SSDs? Do you think hardware distributors such as Alienware (pls no) and MSI might consider developing proprietary systems like this in the future?

It may be too early to consider USB-only memory storage in budget systems, but let me know what you think.

I imagine USB technology can easily go over a TB, but would render the whole dongle idea counterproductive. Any more at this point in time would likely require the use of a wired USB adapter.
