A guide to headset removable cable upgrade

Un4tural

Hello guys, I thought it's worth sharing, "upgraded" my QH-90 to removable audio cable, no need to worry to yank it anymore and have to repair/buy new headset. really doesn't need much, get a TRRS female end, cable and some soldering supplies with epoxy/hot glob. This seems like a common fail point, seems stupid having to throw away a 50£+++ headset/headphones just because the cable worn out or got yanked. Not a video guide, but some pictures instead. Will be exact same thing if it's headphones, minus the mic wiring. It's just pictures as i was too lazy to set up phone camera to film it.

Any feedback welcome, so i can do better with any future guides/stuff i do. Hope it is somewhat helpful and inspired people to fix it rather than toss it out. I'd start making video guides too, if there is people who'd like to see that.

cables are actually kinda hard to find, but one thing beats did good is actually get TRRS cables easier to find, as most are advertised "for beats" etc.

a simple AUX cable will do if you only want stereo, without mic, but mic needs a 4th core in the cable, thus TRRS. Don't forget to double check everything with a continuity test with a voltmeter. keep in mind you can just the same salvage a cable off a different headset/headphones etc. and use that, soldering them to appropriate contacts.

I made the mistake of putting the mic pair wrong on the mic input inside the headset, so had to open it and swap them. works perfectly now. no more broken cables, can simply buy a new TRRS cable and replace it.
