blue screen error report logs?

Go to solution Solved by SaladFingers,

By default Windows will save a file called MEMORY.DMP under your "%SystemRoot%" which usually is "C:\". There are settings for it as to what Windows should log or not - I think the default is just Kernel errors. If your computer doesn't post, that could potentially mean a hardware failure. Since you can't boot into Windows, you probably need to insert your drive into another system to be able to extract the file.

hello, my computer hit a blue screen error and now cant get to windows or bios or a successful POST,

so what i was hoping for was that windows 10 filed a log somewhere on one of my drives containing the problem it encountered.

Thanks a tone for anyone to reply!!! <3

It would have created a .DMP file in the root of the C:\ drive (or wherever your windows installation is).

These .DMP files can be opened with a program called WinDbg. You can get it here:

If you just need the Debugging Tools for Windows 10, and not WDK 10 or Visual Studio 2015, you can install the debugging tools as a standalone component from Windows SDK. In the installation wizard, select Debugging Tools for Windows, and deselect all other components.

My system specs: Intel Core i5 8600K (5ghz Overclocked) CPU - ASUS Strix Z370-I Motherboard - Zotac GeForce GTX 1060 6GB AMP! Edition GPU

Corsair H55 Water Cooler - 16GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance RAM

Shouldn't be, but if it is just show hidden files :P Date or list order is completely dependent on the view settings of the system you are running, not the file itself in any way. Just search for it :P

It most certainly isnt hidden. Windows does remove them after a time however, but it may still be there since you can't boot the computer, which means it can't be deleted.

If it is a hardware failure, its likely that it wouldn't have been created because the dump is normally for kernel or software errors.

Correct, but Kernel will log a hardware failure much of the time, if you actually get the BSOD and let it do its thing. Mainly because hardware failures can crash the kernel itself which leads to a BSOD (or a kernel panic!) :P
