IDEAL

Price <= $1000

RAM >= 16 GB

64 bit Eight Core

CPU >= 1.6 GHz

GPU >= 4GB Ram

Minimum

RAM = 8 GB

64 bit Quad Core (Intel 6th gen HQ/HK)

CPU = 1.6 GHz

GPU = 2GB Ram

Will be using it for Occasional Rendering and Gaming, but mainly for Programming.

PDF attached includes the software system minimum requirements and laptops I am looking into.

Software I will be using:

Blender 3d, Matlab, Maya, Visual Studio, and Labview

My choices so far:

$599 Inspiron 15 5000: http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15-5555-laptop/pd?oc=dncwvamd2812h&model_id=inspiron-15-5555-laptop

$699 IdeaPad Y700: http://shop.lenovo.com/smb/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y700-series/y700-14-inch/?sb=:000001C9:000161FC:

$729 MSI GL62: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154112&cm_sp=Homepage_FDD-_-P1_34-154-112-_-04032016

$749.99 IdeaPad 700: http://shop.lenovo.com/smb/us/en/laptops/ideapad/700-series/700-15-inch/#SYSTEM

I am leaning more towards the Inspiron, but the MSI might be better. This is more or less a general "help me" topic as I am now indecisive as I am still new at this.

Any help and/or alternative laptop options are appreciated.

Go for the MSI, seems like a better deal. I would personally stay away from the lenovos

While it doesn't meet your vRAM requirements it pretty darn close, lol.

An octacore laptop? This is new.

For a mobile machine, I would lean towards intel due to the thermal and electrical efficiency and performance. GHZ and core count aren't everything, and a dual core i3 may well outperform a quad core a8 in many tasks. I would take the MSI or y700 as the inspiron doesn't stack up in specs to the others and the IdeaPad700 doesn't offer any benefits over the cheaper options compelling enough to justify the price increase.

Intel Core i7 4770k - 2x Geforce GTX 780 - MSI Z87 MPower Max - Corsair H60 - 8GB Avexir Core Series MPower Yellow + 4gb no-brand DDR3 - Corsair Obsidian 750d - AData XPG SX900 256gb SSD - Seagate Barracuda 3TB (7200 RPM) - Hitachi 250GB 2.5in HDD (3200 RPM) - WD HDD 160GB extracted from iMac via black magic (no specified RPM) - ASUS VG248QE 144HZ 3d Vision Monitor - Logitech G602 - Ducky Shine 3 TKL - AKG 172 HD Headphones - Xperia z2 - Sony Noise canceling earphones -  Nikon D5200 With Bundled Lenses - Windows 7 Home Premium - Blue Snowball iCE - Acer Aspire X with a broken case, AMD A6, and Raijintek Aidos CPU heatsink

Yet that's a low power i7, 1.5GB DDR3 graphics shared with system memory like a console, and you probably paid more than double he wants to pay.

idk

The Inspiron 7559 seems like a good candidate over the MSI for the base model.

I completely agree about Intel. However, I typically compare the cpus before deciding. And I put the octa core only because for blender it was recommended, my error.

Out of the listed ones, I'd say either 7559 or Y700 - those 2 have the best cooling
