as stated above, even the never gpu's that say 3.0 are all backwards compatible with 2.0. so its doesn't really matter unless your buying some really old ones that mar 1.0 or agp. so really anything you can afford is your answer.

pcie is always backwards compatible. Even to 1.0

As stated above. Any pci-e 3.0 can be put in a pci-e 2.0 slot and work just fine.(and vice versa).

Life is pain. Anyone who says any different is either selling something or the government.

Do you have a budget on your card? And btw PCI-E 3.0 is backwards compatible and thus work on PCI-E 2.0 and PCI-E.
