Besides the obvious, is there any way of straightening up cables that came bent (in packaging) ? I have an 8 pin wire at the front of my case that is reluctant on staying in an organised fashion despite the fact I have recently applied cable combs.

What you are describing is "cable memory". In general there is no real way to deal with it as bending it back the opposite way or heating it can risk creating damage to the cable itself. Usually just time of being in a new position will have some effect. You could also try to route the cable so it lays in a different orientation. Cable combs would be the natural first go to tool, but as you noted you have already done that.
