M.2 or Sata?

Story of my life: I have 2 Machines and only 1 SSD.

I got a laptop and a Desktop.

My laptop only has a 2.5" SATA slot and my desktop has a M.2 slot.

should I get a Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB M.2 SSD (MZ-N5E250BW) for my desktop and put the sata SSD on my laptop or simply get another Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E250B/AM)?

the only reason why I am interested on the M.2 is Speed. is it really faster than sata? (in this particular case) if the speed of those 2 drives is the same (or the difference is not really big) I will go with the sata with out a doubt (I dont really care about the less cables or the space saved)

BTW pardon my English and my lack of experience/knowledge but thats why I am here. any additional info you want to give me guys is welcome and appreciated. (I know that I have to check the key if I am getting a M.2, my mobo is Asus X99 usb 3.1)

Yes, M.2 is faster, probably not noticeable but it is theoretically faster since it lives on the motherboard via a direct connection it has faster access to the cpu

Is there a way to know how big will the difference be in this case? I do not really trust youtube reviews because I do not know if they are actually talking truth or they just did a not appropriated test that will not actually show real world difference that will affect my experience.

What are you going to be using this system for?

That M.2 ssd you listed is Sata based.

Just Gaming and very occasionally rendering. how can I know if it PCIe based? can you guys recomend me one?

Just get a SATA SSD since you're only gaming and rendering, you won't notice a difference, save the money.

Only some super fast M.2 SSD(950 Pro)via PCIe 3.0x4 is faster than SATA based SSD.

 

850 EVO M.2 version will have the same speed as the SATA version, regardless if you connect it through SATA interface or PCIe.

I was assuming the one he listed above was PCIe based, my bad should've taken a look first
