I recently got a gtx 970, but after research saw that apparently the r9 390 is better. So I bought that and once the gtx arrives since it already shipped I am going to return it, should I keep the gtx, what should I do? Is the r9 going to be good in the future, are there any problems I may face? P.s this is my first computer build :) hyped!!!

I'd return the 970, there is really no point of keeping two similar performing cards.

Choose the card you want to keep and send the other back. They will not play well together and there is no point in keeping both. Or you can just send one to someone here on the forums or donate it to a friend if you are feeling like your wallet is a bit too fat.

If you think you can hold out, wait till polaris or Pascal come out. If not, try looking used, you will save a few dollars and put that to the future upgrade.

"You may return most new, unopened items sold and fulfilled by Amazon.com within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error."

if its not fulfilled with amazon just contact the vendor, you should be able to return it with no problems.

What about shadowplay for the gtx, and does any card benefit rendering more than the other because I want to render and record with this.

from what i experienced, shadowplay is pretty much just the result of jimmy rigging a fix for other game recorders being slow with geforce cards, but YMMV.

-snip-

For the 390 you can use OBS, and when rendering look for programs that use OpenCL.
