i just bought a new evga geforce gt 610 low profile graphics card and i don't know if its working properly on my computer

every time i turn on my computer it changes the resolution of my screen

Probably a driver issue then get geforce experience: http://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience get the latest driver with this

make a live version of Ubuntu boot from it and see if the resolution works

the geforce experience found a new driver and is downloading it so should that probably fix it
