microphone software

Does anyone no of any free programs that let you control your mic and sound in real time? What I need is something that will let me add effects or filters (like for background noise) to my voice and have it be heard in a game or program like skype or whatever. I would assume people that stream live must have something that does this. Problem is I don't even know what this software would be called in order to search for it lol.

 

I have voxal voice changer and that "kind of" does what I want, but not really. I want to be able to filter out back ground noise and adjust frequency levels like with an EQ.  I have seen people do it with Reaper, but I need something that is free and maybe not so complicated lol.

I don't know of any programs that can do it perfectly "live" without any latency, for that you will need a mixer (I can recommend the xenyx502 or the alesis multimix 4 USB) but if you can deal with some delay, I know audacity is free and has some eq/effects funcionality

I'd say people who do this professionally (i.e. people who make a living off videos or streaming) have hardware to do this. Haven't heard of any free programs to do this decently, although I have to say that I haven't spent a lot of time looking for it.
