Problem Running Games After Upgrading CPU and MOBO

Hey guys, I just recently upgraded my CPU and motherboard and have been experiencing some problems when running games (this including CS:GO, Civ V, Gta V). My games run fine initially, but begin to get really stuttery and my whole pc restarts at times. These parts were beginning to get dated, thats why I upgraded.

I use my computer mainly for FPS gaming, and web browsing.

My current (upgraded) specs:

Video Card - GTX 660

CPU - i7 4790k

CPU cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Motherboard - msi Z97 Gaming 5

Memory - Kingston HyperX Fury Red (2x4gb)

Storage - Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB

PSU - Thermaltake SMART 750W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

My Old specs

CPU - i3 3220

Motherboard - Gigabyte (forgot the model)

My system is performing much worse at times since the upgrade, I installed all drivers so everything should be running fine. My GPU and CPU are both running at 45-55 degrees Celsius when I am playing. Any feedback on why my system is acting like this is greatly appreciated.

  • 2 weeks later...

I did end up reinstalling windows and yet I still get inconsistent framerates. I used to get 100-150 fps on CS:GO before my upgrade but now they range from 50-100. When I restart my computer or Alt-tab out of the game and back in I get about 200 fps. Is there a chance of bottlenecking or other problems?

I could argue that it might be your PSU not being able to power the system properly.

Thermaltake SMART isn't exactly a high quality PSU.

After all, your power consumption increased quite a bit when going from i3 and some cheapish motherboard to a proper high-level motherboard and high-end cpu.

Also, check all connections.
