Sever grade stuff for streaming and rendering rig???

Hello all,

Okie so im looking at having a dedicated streaming/recording rig and possible rendering rig.

I have seen the video on the LTT channel about using server grade hardware because its alot cheaper but does propose some challenges.

What would you guys suggest for a streaming/recording rig with server stuff in mind,

I was thinking of having a motherboard like this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SuperMicro-Super-X7DCL-I-Dual-CPU-Server-Motherboard-X7DCL-I-YI001-/252014781841?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368

According to the users manual that i found from supermicro its a duel Xeon LGA 771 Quad Core/Dual Core 5400/5300/5200/5100 Series processors at a front side bus speed of 1333 MHz/1066 MHz  To me this means nothing so any possible cpu i could use with this?

RAM is the other thing, i havent done any research on this currently because i dont really know what im on about so i would probably be wasting my time.

The rendering part to this rig isnt really a requirement because i can already edit/render pretty quickly on my gaming pc but would be nice if it could do the job quicker than i can currently.

My gaming pc is an amd 8320 overclocked to 4.3Ghz which is stuck to a gigabyte GA 990fxa with 16gb of ram. I use an xfx r9 290x 4gb card for my main gaming stuff and i do have a spare r9 270x card that i could hopefully use in the streaming/editing rig.

Finally, yeah there might be a cheaper way of doing a streaming/recording rig but i kinda like the unique feel it would have if i did decide to go ahead with it.

Many thanks guys

Tom

You could go with a single Xeon E5 2670. They cost about 70US for the chip and about 200ish for the mobo. Not a bad deal for an 16 core 16 thread part.

My Work in Progress PC http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/522048-xeon-build/ <-- That PC was built but never booted:(

My Work in Progress PC 2.0 https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/540583-xeon-build-20-code-name-xenox (Hopefully this one boots.)
